Preface
COD982XXX-XX - is a multifunctional eight-input server of pay-TV distribution. Device is mainly designed to operate in DVB and IPTV networks. The following functions are envisaged in COD 982:- DVB remultiplexer;
- DVB scrambler and service information generator CAS Crypton;
- NIT, EPG injector;
- IPTV streamer.
Scope:
- Eight ASI inputs.
From different sources (for example from professional digital receivers with ASI outputs) the transport stream arrives at the remultiplexer's ASI inputs. Each out of eight ASI inputs supports up to 32 programs. Up to 24 programs in aggregate can be selected from all inputs. The programs, after being multiplexed, arrive to the built-in DVB-scrambler, and then at the output of COD 982. Automatic ASI input signal detection mechanism is realized in COD 982.
- Input stream analysis. By aid of the bundled software “Crypton Software Suite” each out of 8 input streams can be analysed for the purpose of presence of any services or data transmission covert channels (е.i. the PID’s, which references are absent in the service tables). The stream rate calculation can also be done. Moreover, the transport stream average bit rate can be calculated for each service at any time period.
- Priority multiplexing.Flexible adjustment of programms priorities allows to using frequency resources more efficiently. A high priority can be assigned to the channels with high dynamic images and rating providing their passing through the channel with maximum bitrate.
- Multiplexing quality analyser. A contemporary satellite broadcasting of most digital TV-channels is done by aid of variable stream rate allowing efficient using of channel's carrying capacity, but at the same time creating additional difficulties before a cable operator during remultiplexing of these channels. Multiplexing quality analyser estimates the correctness level of a new generated multiprogrammed transport stream by means of statistics gathering regarding the exceedings of the transmission channel permitted rate as for the selected time interval.
- Service information edit. Service information edit function is obligatory for such class of device. It brings a high quality to the generated multiprogrammed stream including additional network functions to be a main criterion for digital TV distribution.
- NIT/EPG injector. Designed to transmit a network information and weekly TV-channels schedule to a digital multiprogrammed transport stream according to DVB specification (EN300468). Schedule is made and stored to device by "EPG Editor" utility, included into "Crypton Software Suite" software kit.
- CAS Crypton DVB Scrambler . The Scrambler used in device is a realization of Common Scrambler Algoritm, described DVB-CAS ETR-289 specification.
- " High-performance 100Mbit/s TCP/IP port. Mainly designed for transmission of high-bit-rate subscriber information, in CAS Crypton coder mode, and NIT/EPG data.
The above-mentioned port is used for transmission of audio/video streams or Internet in IPTV streamer mode or IP-encapsulater.
- " Up to 24 digital TV or radio programs. Input stream can be composed of 24 programs, which can be processed according to one or another current task. The PCR,DTS and PTS correction envisaged in COD 982, is provided to save to the output stream the high-quality characteristics of input stream.
- Up to 8 service groups. The 24 TV-channels arriving at the input of COD 982 can be arranged into 8 service groups of encryption each having its independent scrambling key and the list of subscribers allowed watching at current time.
- IPTV streamer. Provides a multicast/unicast broadcast function of multiprogrammed and single-programmed streams in IP-networks.
- QPSK modulator and ASI output. There is only one ASI output in COD982ASI-XX. COD982RMS-XX is equipped with ASI output and QPSK modulator which is convertible in the range of 950-1500 MHz or 1450-1750 MHz (it depends on the modulator). There are two types for ASI output operating mode of COD982RMS-XX: «independent» (modulator is not used) and «synchronous» (ASI output opearates together with modulator). Both types support the standard operating modes of ASI: «byte-oriented/packet», «188/204 byte».
- QAM modulator. COD982RMC-XX is able to produce a digital transport stream in the form of QAM modulated radio signal in 50-850 MHz bandwidth. Here are possible the following modes: QAM16, QAM64, QAM128, QAM256.
The mentioned characteristics of the modulator allow using your cable network for a digital TV-signal's distribution more efficiently.
- Management. Via active TCP/IP connection devices are managed by “Crypton Software Suite” software installed on operator's PC.
- " Re-loaded software. It is possible by aid of DTV-Master's corresponding functions to download the new versions of software. To do this, it is necessary for operator to have a program's code and licensed key.

Concise description of principle units:
- ASI interface.DVB ASI interface is used as input and output interface for digital
transport stream transmission according to EN 50083-9. All main modes are supported: «byte-oriented/packet», «188/204 byte». Source mode is automatically determined by ASI inputs. ASI output can be adjusted at random.
- Remultiplexer. Up to 32 pre-programmed digital TV-channels (audio/video/data) can be fed to each input of the multiplexer. Out of 256 channels maximum (32 channels on every input, 8 inputs) there can be selected 24 channels (maximum) which arrive at scrambler and device output. The preset priorities of the system allow to provide an optimal distribution of available data transfer band. Service information edit is also possible here according to EN 300468.
- DVB Scrambler The scrambler used in COD982 is a DVB-compatible and complies with DVB-CAS ETR-289 specification. It provides a selective scrambling of digital TV-channels. The main purpose of scrambling is to exclude an unauthorized viewing of TV-channels.
- Service information generator. Service Information Generator of Conditional Access System CAS Crypton for each group of encryption uses the subscribers list and generates the required SMS-messages needed for subscriber receiver to provide an authorized access to the digital TV-network resources. All 24 channels can be arranged into 8 groups of encryption. Each group is encrypted by its own key and contains its list of subscribers who are currently allowed to watch TV-channels.
- Control module. The main purpose of control module is to provide an efficient management of a device. The operator of broadcasting network manages the device from his computer by aid of “Crypton Software Suite”software installed on it. In IPTV or IP to DVB incapsulation the control module provides a continued TV-broadcasting in IP network or vice versa it provides an incapsulation of IP data with a subsequent transmitting it to a DVB multiplexer.
- QPSK modulator. Built-in QPSK-modulator can be converted in the range of 950-1500 МHz or 1450-1750 МHz and to be a reference output of a transport stream and in a number of cases can be used as a signal source for one-channel microwave transmitter or power summator if group transmitters are used. While using QPSK-QAM transmodulator one can easy arrange a cable network broadcasting.
- QAM modulator. Built-in QAM-modulator is converted in the range of 50-850 МHz and to be a reference output of a transport stream and in a number of cases can be used as a signal source for one-channel microwave transmitter or power summator if group transmitters are used. While using QPSK-QAM transmodulator one can easy arrange a cable network broadcasting.
